Relaxer #1 Schedule

Filed under: 1 — by Courtney Smith @ 6:35 pm

I call it relaxer #1 because it’s the first of 2010 😛
I’m extending my relaxer until week 31 because I need to purchase Neutralizing shampoo.

Week 28 – Henna & Indigo
Week 29 – Moisturizing DC
Week 30 – Clarify & Protein Treatment
Week 31 – Relaxer
Week 32 –

28 weeks :D

So. I’ve made it to 28 weeks post in the cold, dreary, snowy climate of massachusetts.
8/10 I’m relaxing this friday/saturday (depends on the parties, my homework, etc.)
My hair has been ALRIGHT but I think it’s too moisturized, which scares me because you’re supposed to have strong protein-rich hair before a relaxer. However, I didn’t have enough Aphogee 2 minute to do a reconstructor before the relaxer and don’t have ANY clarifying shampoo with me here..*sigh*
Luckily, my dad just sent me some of my Nexxus Keraphix but he couldn’t find any of the ORS Aloe Shampoo I had (I wonder where it went..)
I have two options: wait a couple more weeks to relax my hair or relax my hair this week.

I could wait so that my hair can have the strength and preparation it needs to be healthily relaxed..or I could relax this week because what the hell, my hair is pretty healthy already..
To tell you the truth, I don’t really want to relax for the sake of my scalp..looking back on my past entries in the blog (think three years ago) I see that I had bad scalp burns and the scalp pain JUST went away a couple weeks ago..I kid you not, I was dealing with scalp pain in certain spots for years…and here I’m just gonna relax it to hurt my scalp again? *sigh*

I have to think long and hard about it..the only reason I’m itching to relax is because I want to showcase my hair because certain people seem to think that I don’t have any because I have wigs. Which is absurd because I used to wear my hair straightened alot earlier in the fall semester. Oh well..

it’s funny because most people are discouraging me from relaxing my hair..lol. good friends.

26 weeks

Filed under: 1 — by Courtney Smith @ 9:24 pm

I’m at 26 weeks post now 🙂 SO MUCH NEW GROWTH. My edges are completely new grown in (there’s no relaxed ends on my edges) and a lot of my hair is new growth..which is kinda scary because what if a lot of my hair broke off ahh..but i digress.

I took some hair pics a couple weeks ago and my hair was thick and luscious! My hair has kinda been breaking lately and I attribute that to not using moisturizer and just oiling..I’m now going to start using moisturizer every other day because I can’t use it every day because I get serious buildup and tangling and then BREAKAGE. bleh.
I’m washing my hair this weekend..no special stuff, the usual. I need to get out and buy some more Aussie Moist because this stuff is the TRUTH. this and oil prepoos have gotten me through this long-ass stretch able to comb my hair in the shower and finger detangle without having too much breakage. All in all a good stretch and I’m looking to end it soon (in a couple weeks) at week 28 maybe..yay! My mom is going to send me a care package with relaxer in it so as soon as it comes, I’ll be formulating and planning my new relaxer regimen.

I’m so excited! I stretch  my hair and I think I’m going to be MBL again 🙂 yayerssss it feels like my hair isn’t growing sometimes but eh i guess it is…it just feels like the same length because I always cut/trim it (which I haven’t done since November!). Right now, my hair is MBL stretched (yay!) but I think it might be longer when I relax it because it’s hard to stretch my hair I have so much new growth!

haven’t updated in a while..

Filed under: 1 — by Courtney Smith @ 9:41 pm

So I just washed my 23 weeks post hair!!! 😀 I’m so excited! One more week to 6 months post and my hair is still doing fine. I’m contemplating relaxing it at 28 weeks or even longer..we will see!
So I did a protein treatment with Aphogee 2 min reconstructor then deep conditioned overnight with my amla powder deep conditioning mix. I’m airdrying now.

My regime for this really long stretch has been quite simple: Wear wigs, wash infrequently, avoid buildup
The wigs allow me to not manipulate my hair at all during the day and to also not look like a hot mess lol. Washing infrequently cuts down on the manipulation and allows me to lose less hair. Avoiding buildup from leave-ins and conditioners cuts down on tangles. My hair tangles at the roots if it has too much sticky buildup.

I use a deep conditoning mix of GVP Conditioning Balm, Suave Coconut, and Aussie moist mixed with ayurvedic oils, butters, and powders 1-2 times a week. I shampoo after deep conditioning with Herbal Essences Hello Hydration.

Currently in need of some Aussie moist and Suave coconut..I use so much conditioner on a weekly basis for the deep conditioner mix because my hair is so THICK.
My hair is currently past BSL and I think it would be MBL if it was relaxed.

16 weeks and counting

Filed under: 1 — by Courtney Smith @ 4:26 pm

So officially 16 weeks post today. There’s a little bit breakage, just because I haven’t washed my hair in about  a week and it’s weighed down with oils and silicones etc.
So right now, I am doing a heavy oiling with my ayurvedic oil for a couple of hours then an overnight DC with Kalpi Tone, Amla, and Brahmi powders. I only have 4 more weeks but it’s so difficult for me to detangle..I have to use like half a bottle of VO5 conditioner. *sigh* oh well..my hair still is thick and my ends look alright. AND I’m BSL! Yay 🙂 Maybe I’ll make close to MBL after I relax! YAY!

16 weeks and counting!

Filed under: 1 — by Courtney Smith @ 3:00 pm

Ok so an update..my hair is very thick after my wash. Yesterday I DC’ed with GVP Conditioning Balm+Silk Elements Olive+Aussie Moist+Suave Coconut+Coconut Milk+Rhassoul Clay+Henna+Kalpi Tone+Brahmi+Amla and some oils, aloe vera gel, honey, and butter mixed in. I know, it’s a lot of ingredients..but I’m trying to use up the coconut milk powder I have as well as some other ingredients before I go to colllege this fall.

I love adding in a scoop of henna to my DCs because I always have thick hair afterwards! Not as thick as a full henna application but thick, nonetheless!

The only issue I’m having right now is with combing and detangling. It’s not really an issue,  but I’m using like 1/3 of my bottle of VO5 Free Me Freesia conditioner to detangle. It’s quite annoying slathering on the conditioner and it takes a couple of minutes to detangle.
I have about 5 more weeks until I relax and I think that I’m going to do it so I’m happy!!! I hope that I reach midback length or close to it once I relax 🙂
